DNIPRO, Ukraine – At least 14 people were killed and multiple others injured after a Russian drone struck a crowded railway station platform in the central-eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Thursday, according to Ukrainian authorities. The attack hit the station while passenger trains were present, causing significant casualties among civilians waiting on the platform. Ukrainian officials described the incident as one of the deadliest recent attacks on the country's railway infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike, calling it a "horrific" attack on civilians. He stated that Russian forces targeted a platform where both commuter and passenger trains were standing. Regional authorities initially reported 13 fatalities, while later updates indicated the death toll had risen to at least 14. Ukrainian police also reported multiple injuries following the strike. According to Oleksandr Pertsovsky, head of Ukrainian Railways, security warnings had been issued before the attack due to increased drone threats. However, a large number of passengers remained at the station when the drone struck. The attack comes amid intensifying aerial warfare between Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainian officials say Russian drone and missile attacks have increased in recent months, while Moscow reported intercepting hundreds of Ukrainian drones aimed at the Moscow region overnight. The latest violence occurs despite ongoing diplomatic efforts. Zelenskyy recently confirmed that Ukraine, Russia, and the United States are expected to hold trilateral talks in November aimed at reviving stalled peace negotiations. Ukraine has called for stronger international action following the Dnipro strike, arguing that continued attacks on civilian infrastructure demonstrate the urgent need for additional pressure on Moscow.
