What Is the Portugal D2 Visa? The Portugal D2 Visa is a residence visa designed for: Entrepreneurs starting a business in Portugal Freelancers and self-employed professionals Company owners expanding operations into Portugal Investors acquiring or running a Portuguese business Unlike many business immigration programs, the D2 visa does not have a fixed minimum investment amount required by law. Authorities focus on whether the business plan is realistic and whether the applicant has sufficient funds to support the project. Why the D2 Visa Is Popular ✅ No legally fixed investment threshold. ✅ Open to freelancers and consultants. ✅ Pathway to Portuguese residency. ✅ Family reunification options available. ✅ Right to live and work in Portugal. Main Requirements Applicants generally need: Valid passport Clean criminal record Portuguese accommodation address Business plan or freelance/service contracts Proof of sufficient financial means Portuguese tax number (NIF) and often a Portuguese bank account Evidence of planned investment or business activity in Portugal Important Reality Check I could not verify any official source stating that Portugal is launching a new D2 immigration program on November 1, 2026, or that approvals will become "very easy." The sources I found describe the existing D2 visa rules and requirements, but do not confirm such an announcement
