NEW YORK – A tragic and violent incident unfolded in Times Square, New York City, when a 49-year-old woman armed with two knives attacked pedestrians in what police described as a random and unprovoked assault. Authorities identified the suspect as Pamela Cisneros of Queens. According to police, the attack began when she approached a 68-year-old man who had just exited a subway station and stabbed him in the abdomen. Moments later, approximately 20 seconds after the first assault, she targeted a 32-year-old woman and stabbed her in the abdomen. The victim was rushed to hospital but later died from her injuries. Police later identified the woman as Erin Piacenti of New Jersey. Witnesses alerted nearby officers, who quickly confronted the suspect. Police say officers repeatedly ordered her to drop the knives and attempted to use Tasers to stop her. However, she refused to comply and continued advancing toward officers while armed. After several minutes of unsuccessful negotiations, officers opened fire. Pamela Cisneros was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The wounded 68-year-old man survived and was reported to be in stable condition. Investigators stated there was no indication that the attack was terrorism-related. Officials described the stabbings as random acts of violence. Police also noted that the suspect had a history of mental health issues. The attack occurred in Times Square, one of New York City's most visited locations, attracting thousands of tourists and commuters every day. The incident prompted a major emergency response and renewed discussions about public safety and mental health interventions.
